Thank you for your interest in this program.
The purpose of this residency program is to advance the kingdom of God by discovering, developing, and deploying men who have demonstrated shepherding and pastoral care and are sensing a calling of God to vocational ministry on their lives. This program is designed to equip men for the ministry through mentoring, modeling and participation in ministry-related activities over the course of twelve months. The focus of this residency will be pastoral ministry with an emphasis in church planting or church revitalization.
Entrance into the residency program
1. All candidates interested in inclusion into the program must read Is God Calling Me? By Jeff Iorg prior to submitting their application. A free copy will be provided by Pastor Jamie upon request.
1. An application process involving the candidate’s testimony and a description of why they want to be a part of the residency program. (form is found beolow)
2. Approval for entrance into the program granted by the residency leadership group after a majority vote of affirmation following an assessment process.
Responsibilities of Resident
1. Monthly meetings The residents will be expected to attend the scheduled monthly meetings. Each monthly meeting will be a mini workshop/lecture over a particular topic relating to the challenges and blessings of ministry. Residents are encouraged to bring their Bible and a notebook to every meeting along with any assignment that will be due/presented on the scheduled date. Each topic will be led by a member of the residency pastors and will include input from the rest of the group. The topics have been chosen in advance and assigned prior to the first meeting. These topics have proven valuable to those in the ministry and in preparation for church leadership. The list of topics is provided in the schedule.
Each monthly topic time, the leader will provide handouts for the residents and the residency pastors. Questions and comments from residents during the topic time are not only expected they are encouraged. The length of the monthly meeting times is generally 1.5 hours. Exceptions to this are the Meet With a Pastor time and the Preaching Labs as they will both be done immediately after the regular session of monthly meeting.
2. Meet with a Pastor Three times throughout the year residents will have scheduled time immediately after the regular monthly meeting to meet a pastor and ask applicable ministry questions of him. Pastors generally range from large, multi-staff churches to rural, single-staff churches, new church plants to established churches. This is to provide the residents with a ministry perspective from a wide variety of contexts. Feedback on this section of the program always indicates this is seen as very valuable. It is important that the residents have prepared and pertinent questions prepared for the pastor at the meeting.
3. Evangelistic Outreach Plan The residents will plan a significant evangelistic event for a church. The residents will work individually to develop a two-day evangelistic campaign, backyard Bible club, youth rally, neighborhood canvassing project, marriage retreat, etc. with an imaginary budget of $1000. An outline of the budget, strategy, anticipated outcome, and all other information shall be presented at the scheduled time to the Residency Pastors. Feedback will be provided. Providing funds are available, one project will be chosen by the resident pastors and $1000 will be awarded to the resident for the purpose of implementing the event in partnership with a sister church. Pastor Jamie will help with the connection with the sister church
4. Preaching lab Residents will have opportunity to preach to an assembled group with feedback and coaching provided by ministry cohort members present.
